1There’s a wideness in God’s mercy,
Like the wideness of the sea;
There’s a kindness in His justice,
Which is more than liberty.
2There is no place where earth’s sorrows
Are more felt than up in heaven;
There is no place where earth’s failings
Have such kindly judgment given.
3There is welcome for the sinner,
And more graces for the good;
There is mercy with the Savior;
There is healing in His blood.
4For the love of God is broader
Than the measure of man’s mind;
And the heart of the Eternal
Is most wonderfully kind.
5There is plentiful redemption
In the blood that has been shed,
There is joy for all the members
In the sorrows of the Head.
6If our love were but more simple,
We should take Him at His word,
And our lives would be all sunshine
In the favor of our Lord. Amen.
7Was there ever kindest shepherd
Half so gentle, half so sweet,
As the Savior Who would have us
Come and gather round His feet?
8Souls of men, why will ye scatter
Like a crowd of frightened sheep?
Foolish hearts, why will ye wander
From a love so true and deep?
Numbers14:18The LORD is long-suffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.
Psalm86:5For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.
Psalm86:15But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.
Psalm91:14Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
Psalm103:11For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.
Matthew9:36But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
Luke15:20-2420 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. 21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. 22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: 23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: 24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
Hebrews4:14-1614 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
