1Work, for the night is coming,
Work through the morning hours;
Work while the dew is sparkling,
Work ’mid springing flowers;
Work when the day grows brighter,
Work in the glowing sun;
Work, for the night is coming,
When man’s work is done.
2Work, for the night is coming,
Work through the sunny noon;
Fill brightest hours with labor,
Rest comes sure and soon:
Give every flying minute
Something to keep in store:
Work, for the night is coming,
When man works no more.
3Work, for the night is coming,
Under the sunset skies;
While their bright tints are glowing,
Work, for daylight flies:
Work till the last beam fadeth,
Fadeth to shine no more:
Work, while the night is darkening,
When man’s work is o’er. Amen.
1 Kings2:2I go the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore, and show thyself a man;
Psalm90:10The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
Ecclesiastes9:10Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
Jeremiah13:16Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.
Matthew20:4And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way.
John4:34Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
John9:4I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
Romans6:22But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
Romans13:12The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
1 Corinthians15:58Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
Galatians6:9And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
1 Thessalonians4:11And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;
2 Thessalonians3:13But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.
1 Timothy5:10Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.
Titus3:8-148 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. 9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. 10 A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; 11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself. 12 When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter. 13 Bring Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey diligently, that nothing be wanting unto them. 14 And let our's also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.
