Carols for Use in Church010
God Rest You, Merry Gentlemen

1God rest you, merry gentlemen,
Let nothing you dismay,
For Jesus Christ our Savior
Was born upon this day
To save us all from Satan’s power,
When we were gone astray;
O Tidings of comfort and joy.
2In Bethlehem, in Jewry,
This Blessèd Babe was born,
And laid within a Manger,
Upon this happy Morn;
The which His Mother Mary
Did nothing take in scorn.
3From God our Heavenly Father,
A Holy Angel came,
And unto certain Shepherds
Brought Tidings of the same,
How that in Bethlehem was born
The Son of God by Name.
4“Fear not,” then said the Angel,
“Let nothing you affright,
This day is born the Savior
Of a pure Virgin bright,
To free all those who trust in Him
From Satan’s power and might.”
5The Shepherds at those Tidings
Did much rejoice in mind,
And left their flocks a-feeding,
In tempest, storm, and wind,
And went to Bethlehem straightway,
This Blessèd Babe to find.
6But when to Bethlehem they came,
Where our dear Savior lay,
They found Him in a Manger,
Where oxen feed on hay;
His Mother Mary kneeling,
Unto the Lord did pray.
7Now to our God sing praises,
All you within this place,
And with true love and brotherhood
Adore our Savior’s Grace;–
This Holy Tide of Christmas
All others doth deface.
Luke2:10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
